Alfons Miettinen shows strong race pace at Jerez
Heading to Jerez for the fifth round of the Spanish F4 Championship, Alfons Miettinen demonstrated promising speed, as he came close to the top 20 in a fiercely competitive environment to maintain his positive progress in his rookie season in the championship.
Moving on from a learning weekend at Jarama, Alfons Miettinen flew to Jerez to continue his maiden season in the Spanish F4 Championship for the fifth round of the campaign to start the second half of the campaign on a high note with experienced outfit GRS Team.
Returning to a more conventional three-day weekend format, Alfons began learning the track in Friday’s testing and free practice sessions, but faced an unusual problem in the second practice session, as parts of the track came up and damaged his car.
After the team quickly repaired the car, Alfons posted the 28th-fastest time in the first qualifying session of the weekend on Saturday morning, achieving his season-best qualifying position ahead of the first race.
Alfons stayed out of trouble in the race, while the affair was marred by a red flag in the early stages, as he crossed the line in 31st place. Starting 25th for the second race of the day, the young Finn had a clean and consistent race to end the first day of racing in 26th.
Sunday morning hosted the second qualifying session, which proved to be a difficult one for Alfons, but it set the stage for what became a strong end to the weekend in the third race. Alfons made solid progress, while the red flag was deployed mid-race, to move up to 25th and cross the line in said position, before being later promoted to 23rd as post-race penalties were applied.
A promising weekend for Alfons, who aims to continue his upwards trajectory in two weeks’ time at Circuito de Navarra for the sixth round of the 2026 F4 Spanish Championship, on 10–11 October.
