Two months after a promising Spanish F4 debut at Valencia, Alfons Miettinen continued his rookie campaign in the championship at Portimao, where he showed positive progress, while he battled with technical issues during the weekend.

Following a promising debut at Valencia in May, in which he stood clear of chaos around him to finish just outside of the top 20 in race three of the weekend, Finnish youngster Alfons Miettinen headed to Portimao to maintain his positive progress in the second round of the Spanish F4 Championship.

Under the supervision of Marko Koiranen, who gave him his first taste of Formula 4 machinery last year, Alfons gathered experience across testing and the first two practice sessions to get to grips with the new venue with established outfit GRS Team.

It was then time for the first qualifying session of the weekend, on Saturday morning, in which he set the 33rd-fastest time. During preparations for the first race though, Alfons suffered a technical issue, which forced him to stay on the sidelines as racing action commenced. Later that day, Alfons took to the track for race two, in which he showed his prowess by staying out of trouble and making his way up to 29th following a late safety car restart.

With a tough Saturday in the books, Alfons was determined to bounce back, a goal which became clearer in his mind after another difficult qualifying session on Sunday morning. From 33rd on the grid, Alfons gained nine positions at the start, and then ran as high as 23rd following a safety car restart. While battling for positions however, Alfons had his race end early after being collected into a crash with just a few minutes left on the clock.

A difficult weekend for Alfons, who looks to turn things around in two weeks’ time at MotorLand Aragon on 20–21 June for the third round of the 2026 Spanish F4 Championship.
